Instructions
Use the video to screenshot or take a snip of the key scenes within the video. You want to include a range of shots to use for this activity.
Image - name the type of shot and what it shows (describe what you can see) | Why is it important? What does it tell us about the character? What it tells us about how the character is feeling and what they might be thinking. |
-Medium Shot | This is Important because you can see how nervous he is just by looking at him as you can see him biting his fingernail in an attempt to soothe himself or to take his mind off the upcoming fight, as he doesn’t know how this match will play out. He is also trying to analyze and think of a method to potentially beat him and find what his next challengers technique is. He is Partially nervous as he is still learning what the rules are and also Mr Miyagi is behind him ready to help with any way he can with information. Daniel is still still trying to understand how the rules apply to him and how they can limit or assist him. |
Long Shot | In this shot you can see the crowd and the referees eagerly watching, waiting to see who will be the victor and you also get to see both boys clearly as they begin to get ready for another attack. Here we can see two Male boys who are engaging in Combat/Karate and both seem evenly matched. Behind them is a large group of spectators and referees watching closely as they are very interested to see who will be the victor of this match. (Sidenote you can also see a few members of the Cobra Kai watching/studying them to potentially find the key to beating Daniel or maybe just to see how the young martial artist fights.) |
Extreme Long Shot- | This shot features several members in the crowd watching some matches as several young martial artists attempt to best each other at karate. This shot also showcases just how large the stadium really is as I stated before there were many matches occuring in this shot. You can also see many referees watching the matches closely to make sure the match stays within the guidelines and that the contestants don’t break the rules. |
Long shot. | -This shot features Darry Vidal celebrating another win as you can see (sorta bad shot on my behalf) he is happy and excited and you can see a lot of the wall and most of his body and also there is a referee behind him signalling that the match is now coming to a close as Darry has won. |
The Karate Kid is a film about how a young teenage boy named Daniel is forced to move to Reseda, Los Angeles in order for his Mum to work at her new job (Rocket Computers). Daniel, being the optimistic boy that he is,gladly follows along. Daniel slowly adjusting to his new lifestyle gains a friend named Freddy albeit not how you would expect though, as Freddy was behind a gate and Daniel unknowingly, kicked the gate open sending Freddy flying which sent Daniel into a panic and had him racing to pick Freddy up from the ground, which he then introduced himself after apologizing for the whole incident. Freddy later talks to Daniel about a party and invites him along and Daniel gratefully accepts, so later that day the party is being held down on the beach and everyone is having a great time and Daniel has found a girl who he likes and she happens to think the same so he introduces himself to her and discovers her name is Ali. So they get to know each other better and Daniel teaches her a new skill which she gladly continues to become better at. But as the night progress’ a group of Cobra Kai who were riding on motorbikes happen to stumble upon the party and go down to the beach to investigate, Johnny being the Head of the group confronts Ali as she is his Ex and he would like to have a word with her, so he snatches at her radio and teases her about it but in an attempt to get it back he throws it to the ground breaking it, which Daniel then steps in and gets shoved to the ground, Johnny interested in making a complete idiot out of him agrees to fight him and slowly starts wearing Daniel down and then cripples him with a Stomach Kick which he then coughs and falls to the ground. Daniel sits there for a few more moments when Johnny gets closer to drag him to his feet so in an attempt to get back at him he throws a quick jab to Johnny's nose which actually connects but sadly only results in a black eye for Daniel. The next morning Daniel has woken up and has put on glasses to cover the damage and is now trying to leave quickly to avoid his Mum but she requests that he eat dinner before he leaves “i’m not hungry” is what Daniel tells his Mother in an attempt to leave but then she confronts him about the glasses and asks to see his lovely brown eyes which he then refuses but ultimately reveals his scarred face which only makes his Mother worried and she asks what happened but he didn’t want her to worry so he make up a lie and told his Mum that he had “tripped” whilst riding his bike. She was a bit skeptical but she didn’t know what to say so she believed and begged that he be more careful next time, Daniel then set off on his first day to school with a blackeye and with a body lined with bruises. He then began school off with a nice lesson of P.E which he happen to have run into Ali so he began speaking to her and seeing how she was and discovered she was learning how to be a cheerleader and had also told or more like showed Daniel that she had practiced what he taught her and that she was getting better at it, but then the Coach/Teacher whistled for everyone to get ready as the lesson had now begun. Unfortunately for Daniel, Johnny,Dutch,Tommy and Bobby were conspiring against him and had planned to aggrovate him in order to get him to fight them which led to a fight breaking out and Daniel launching a punch at one of the boys resulting in Daniel being kicked off school grounds. A while later a Halloween party has begun and everyone is celebrating at the party but Johnny is about to light a joint when Daniel pours water on him from a nearby tap which enrages Johnny causing him to rally his goons and beat him which they succeed but as they are about to potentially kill him an Unknown figure steps forth stopping the attack and then proceeds to beat them, making them run scarce. The Unknown Figure wakes Daniel up and Daniel thanks him but then the Unknown figure introduces himself as none other than Mr Miyagi, who picks Daniel up from the ground which Daniel is thankful for but is wondering how he knows so much Karate and then humbly requested that Mr Miyagi teach him Karate which Mr Miyagi refused at first when all of a sudden another Unknown figure steps forth also known as the Cobra Kai Sensei and as he confronts Mr Miyagi about the beating he gave his students he vows to make him and the boy pay. So in hearing this Mr Miyagi then tells the boy he will teach him, so they go through vigurous trainings which all seem pointless to Daniel at the time but would later make him a great Martial Artist. Daniel then learns of a Tournament for Young Martial Artists like himself and wants to enter which Mr Miyagi thinks about for a few seconds and then says “yes”. So they train for the fated day learning new techniques and how Daniel needs to find inner-balance until Daniel’s Birthday arrives and Mr Miyagi gives Daniel a new set of Clothes and even a Yellow Car which he drives to see Ali and break the news to her and set things right with her. Then the fated day arrives, and Daniel recieves some trouble from Dutch and his friends as Daniel was in the changing room and Dutch wanted to fight him then and there which was stopped by a nearby referee. But it didn’t get any better, at least not yet as Daniel was unclear of the rules so he started out rough as the fight progressed he learns the rules as he fights then becomes more and more confident and ultimately allowing him to win the match, but sadly for Daniel there was much harder people than this as he later confronts Bobby,Dutch and then Tommy who is forced to cripple Daniel to ensure that Johnny wins. Johnny had taken notice of this and was annoyed by how his fight would play out and how he wouldn’t be able to get the satisfaction of beating Daniel, so in a fit of rage he proceeded to beat Darry Vidal, his current opponent to a certain degree which slightly scares Daniel. Daniel now lay silently in the changing room where he is unable to walk until Daniel requests that Mr Miyagi use a special technique that may enable him to walk a bit better which Mr Miyagi is unsure if he should as he is already proud of Daniel, but Daniel refuses to lose like this so Mr Miyagi uses it to help his leg even it was a little. And as the trophy is about to be given to Johnny, Ali runs to tell him that Daniel will fight, so now the fated match between Daniel and Johnny begin with Daniel taking the early lead before Johnny hurts his leg again and starts raking points back but before Daniel loses he recalls when Mr Miyagi was doing The Crane Technique which he wasn’t sure if it would work but he had no other choice so he raised his leg and lifted his arms accordingly and as the whistle was blown, Johnny ran at Daniel as Daniel sent his leg flying towards his face giving him the point resulting in Daniel becoming the new champion of the Undervalleys under 18 Karate Tournament.(For Now).
My favourite character would have to be Daniel as he showed great development and growth throughout the whole movie and even though he was struggling he never gave up and in turn made him one of the most formidable opponents Johnny has ever fought and has shown that even people who know absoloutly nothing about karate can become Pros.(Given Time)
An event which surprised me was when Mr Miyagi decided to train Daniel as he knew almost nothing about him but still decided to train him, maybe he felt seen Potential within Daniel and decided to train him and see how far he could take Daniel or maybe he just felt like Daniel should at least defend himself instead of being bullied by people who knew Karate better than him.
I would recommend this text to other teenagers because why not, it’s a great movie that’s filled with oohs and ahhhs and maybe some parts that make you just laugh out loud. There are many reasons why you should watch this movie, for one, you can watch Daniel try to keep his cool with Mr Miyagi or wonder why Mr Miyagi truly chose Daniel instead of just staying a Janitor but overall it’s a really good movie that deserves more popularity than what it has now as it was a really good movie back then and still is now.
We have also been learning about different film terms and techniques.
Below is what we have been learning about over the past few weeks as we need to know these things if we are to pursue careers such as Photography or something else that requires you to be able to point out specific shots. We have also been learning how to pointout shots in a movie and what type of shot they are and also how to analyze what’s happening in the shot. Example-Here I did some analyzing that I hope I did good at.

The Roles and responsibilities of being the head of a Local Government is great as you will decide whether we have good roads, bad roads or just a new store but in saying this sometimes the changes they make are never noticed but will help you a lot. Sadly most changes are interpretated as bad when they try to improve roads it starts a fire in peoples minds because they don't want to be waiting for ages just to get to work so they can be a pain to get through and it will only take longer if people don't cooperate. But Local Governments such as FNDC(Far North District Council) have redeeming qualities that show great promise towards our future by protecting local establishments and protecting our forests. They continue to help the people and are focusing a lot of there time and patience towards the community and I have hope that they will continue to make life better for us people who live in the North. I will continue to improve these blogs and make them better by including more information and greater use of my language but that is all for now so bye.
To start this Blog off I would like to tell you how much we have been learning and how it has affected us by enlightening us with new information and giving us some new topics to research and has placed us in many difficult situations where we had to gather the most information at once and relay that to the teacher. So first Topic SNA, Sna is a very complicated topic as it is nor good but nor is it bad as it can help an ecosystem a lot by laying a hefty fine upon any poor soul who happens to chop or destroy some protected land. Sna is often thought of as a bad thing as it is "taking" someones elses land without them actually knowing so it comes off as bad but really it's just to keep an ecosystem from caving in on itself and destroying endangered wildlife.
Leadership and Government- Local Government is one of the lowest forms of Public Administration in a Particular Soveriegn State and it is important because Local Governments have two goals. Its main purpose is to manage goods and services. And the other goal is to show how they can meet the needs of these regions by incorporating them into the special needs of the local community on behalf of the citizens. Basically the importance of local government is taken up. So that is most of what we have been learning but we have several more interesting topics that continue to show us greater things and improve our general knowledge of local and Global problems.
From what I have read SNA is often never good nor is it ever bad as SNA can usually save and protect a forest and revive a dying species but they can sometimes be bad as they often take peoples land without them knowing and the owner or "previous"owner is helpless to do anything. But as I said it can also help out by preserving Historical land and can fine any person who chops a tree down with a $10,000 fine which is pretty big considering it's a tree but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Alright from this we can deduce a rough Pros and Cons.
Pro-Can protect land,Can revive dying species,
Con-Steals land,fines too much
Over the period of a few days I have been reading the book The Outsider's, and it talks about how some people are discriminated based on who they hang out with or asscociate with and this discrimination is taken a few step's too far by the Soc's who threaten to kill 'Greasers' and then nearly end up killing them, and example of this is in chapter four when Ponyboy, the main character is nearly killed when a bunch of Soc's try to drown him and he nearly succeeded but thankfully one of Ponyboys friend's were there to save him. This is where I'm up to right now but if you would like to read the book then feel free to do so. The link is down below.(Hopefully)
